Art Basel Conversations

16 June 2013

Amidst seemingly growing worldwide political unrest, this conversation focuses on the social practice works of two artists in Art Basel's Unlimited sector. The question of whether art has the ability to implement measurable change will be addressed, as well as the impact of these artists’ works on the art community and communities at large. What is the function of art within society? How do we know when social practice art fails? What changes can we expect in this realm of art?

Sue Williamson, Artist, Cape Town; Carlos Garaicoa, Artist, Havana/ Madrid. Moderator: Gianni Jetzer, Curator of Art Basel's Unlimited sector, and Curator-at-Large, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C.
